讲座人简介

Prof Greg Foliente is an Enterprise Professorial Fellow in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology at the University of Melbourne in Australia, and a Golden Jubilee Honorary Professor at the De La Salle University in the Philippines. He also currently serves as President and Board Chair for the non-profit International Initiative for a Sustainable Built Environment (iiSBE), and as the Chair and Coordinator of the world’s premier SBE Conference series. An interdisciplinary scientist and scholar of global standing, he is a recipient of the prestigious James Croes Medal from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), amongst other awards, and listed in Stanford University’s world ranking of top 2% scientists based on his published work in Scopus. He serves on the editorial board of 6 international journals, and is an expert consultant to the UN and other international agencies. He is part of the leadership team for the International Energy Agency (IEA) EBC Annex 89 (Ways to Implement Net-zero Whole Life Carbon Buildings). He previously worked at Virginia Tech and the University of California in Berkeley in the US, and the Australian national science agency (the CSIRO), and has been a visiting scholar/researcher in some leading institutions in Europe and Asia. He received a BSc in the Philippines and two MSc and PhD degrees at Virginia Tech in the US, and executive leadership and management training at the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the MIT Sloan Executive Education.

讲座内容：In this seminar-workshop, I will outline the types and range of research and innovation activities and opportunities that can be undertaken to improve industry and society – or to contribute to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Impactful research needs to be solid and rigorous, yes, but the value of the effort is maximized through clear communication and their effective translation into policy and practice. Researchers and experts need to become more effective and efficient in journal paper or technical report writing, and giving presentations. The seminar-workshop is a “compact” version of an intensive week-long journal writing session initially developed for researchers at the Australian national science agency, and previously adapted as a half-day workshop for university faculty, research fellows and students in Australia and Asia. Topics covered include initial concept planning, writing and material presentation strategies, and appropriate AI tool use/support.
