西交•通全球暑期学校(International Summer School of Xi’an Jiaotong University)
Ecology concepts and applications
[Introduction]
The goal of this course is to build a foundation of ecological knowledge around key concepts. The key concepts are listed at the beginning of each chapter to alert the student to the major topics to follow. The case study approach supports the concepts with evidence, and introduces the methods and people that have created the discipline of ecology. This course is also concerned with the practical side of ecology and how the tools of science is applied to the ecological problems we face in the contemporary world.
In this course, three teachers will give the lectures to students by introducing what the concepts of ecology are and how to use these concepts in the real world with illustrations and detailed explanations of mathematics. We try to let students understand human disturbance of ecosystems to consider how damaged ecosystems can be restored.
