应能源与动力工程学院热流科学与工程教育部重点实验邀请,爱丁堡大学Jason M Reese院士将于2018年10月16日做学术报告,欢迎各位师生参加。

报告题目:Molecular and Multiscale Engineering Flows

报告地点:北二楼1402会议室

报告时间:2018年10月16日 周二 上午10:00--12:00

报告摘要:In multiscale flow systems, molecular effects require special treatment beyond the scope of conventional fluid modelling. In this talk, I will describe our recent work on molecular fluid dynamics and our search for models that balance improved accuracy with computational efficiency. I will discuss the coupled molecular/continuum techniques we are constructing, and show that scale separation in some physical situations can be exploited to computational advantage. I will show results from engineering applications, including thermal atomization of liquids, the extraordinary permeability of nanotube membranes, and gas Knudsen pumps with no moving parts.

报告人简介:Prof. Jason M Reese is a Regius Professor of Engineering, and Royal Academy of Engineering Chair in Emerging Technologies, in the University   of Edinburgh. Prof. Jason M Reese’s research activities focus on multiscale fluids engineering systems: nano- and microfluidics, interfacial and other non-continuum flows, high-speed (rarefied) aerodynamics, and rapid granular/gas flows. He is investigating new ways of modelling and simulating these flows from both molecular and hydrodynamic viewpoints. In particular, developing theoretical insight into the underlying non-continuum physics, and numerical simulation tools ranging from compressible fluid codes running extended hydrodynamic models through to highly-parallel molecular dynamics and DSMC codes. All of these numerical tools are released open-source in the OpenFOAM code.

Prof. Jason M Reese has more than 280 publications which are cited more than 3700 times. Since 2007, he has received more than 4.7 million pounds of research funding from EPSRC, UK-based charities, University Awarded Project Funding and other institutions. In 2003 Prof. Jason M Reese won the Philip Leverhulme Prize for Engineering (Leverhulme Trust), in 2004 the 36th Bruce Preller Prize Lectureship (Royal Society of Edinburgh), and he was a MacRobert Award Finalist (Royal Academy of Engineering) in 2006. Prof. Jason M Reese is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, and of the Institute   of American Physical Society.
